Limitations of current treatments

Limitations of current treatments

There are currently a number of treatment options used in clinical practice, e.g.

  • Acoustic therapy
  • Pharmacotherapy
  • Cognitive behavioral therapy

but none have produced consistent improvement of the patient condition.

The treatment objective is in many instances to provide symptomatic relief of the patient’s phantom sound as well as the associated emotional stress.

There is currently no drug for the treatment of acute or chronic tinnitus approved by the health regulatory authorities in the US or EU.
